This Boston Bruins PTO addition could benefit by the club's recent roster cuts.

Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle were The Hockey News picks for the mid-season Selke Trophy.

The Boston Bruins significantly trimmed their training camp roster on Sunday (Sept. 29). Among the most notable Bruins cuts were Fabian Lysell, Georgii Merkulov, Riley Duran, and Trevor Kuntar.

With these cuts, we are slowly starting to see what the Bruins' potential roster could be for the start of the regular season. One specific Bruin who may benefit from the Bruins cutting so many prospects is professional tryout (PTO) addition Tyler Johnson.

A notable chunk of Johnson's competition at training camp, like Lysell and Merkulov in particular, have been cut. While there are other depth players, like Patrick Brown, Cole Koepke, Vinni Lettieri, Riley Tufte, and Jeff Viel still on the training camp roster, the chance of Johnson earning a contract from Boston now looks a little bit better.

Johnson, 34, has had a solid pre-season for the Bruins and could be a decent depth addition to the club's roster if he officially lands a contract. His ability to play all three forward positions also helps with his appeal.

It will be intriguing to see what happens between Johnson and the Bruins from here. However, with a decent amount of his competition being cut, he appears to be a solid spot for now.
