On Feb. 28, the Boston Bruins made several roster moves. However, the most notable of bunch was prospect Georgii Merkulov being recalled to the Bruins' NHL roster.

Merkulov, 24, is one of the Bruins' most promising prospects. He has been one of the Providence Bruins' top offensive contributors since the 2022-23 season, and he certainly has been impactful yet again this campaign. In 47 games with the AHL squad, he has 13 goals and 44 points. This includes six goals and 17 points over his last 17 contests.

Given how well Merkulov has played this season, it is fair to say he has earned this latest call-up. After getting this recall, Merkulov now must seize this great opportunity.

There are spots to fight for in the Bruins' lineup right now. Trent Frederic is out with an injury, and several of their players are underperforming this season. Thus, if Merkulov impresses with the Bruins during this recall, it will help his chances of sticking on their NHL roster. This is especially so with the trade deadline rapidly approaching and the Bruins likely to sell off some of their pending UFAs.

The Bruins also desperately need an offensive spark and will hope Merkulov can provide it. At this point in the season, they are four points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. Thus, they need as many wins as possible to help their chances of moving back up the standings.

Nevertheless, it will be fascinating to see how much of an impact Merkulov can make with Boston from here. Maybe he can be the spark that helps them get back on track.
