Boston Bruins goalie prospect Michael DiPietro is enjoying an excellent season down in the American Hockey League (AHL). In 38 appearances this season with Providence, he has a 23-8-6 record and is at the top of the AHL with a .928 save percentage and a 2.03 goals-against average.

According to Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek, the Bruins and DiPietro are having ongoing talks about a potential contract extension. In addition, Marek reported that the 2017 third-round pick would generate interest "from several teams" if he hits the market this summer.

Due to his limited NHL experience, DiPietro is eligible to become a Group 6 unrestricted free agent this summer. Thus, if the Bruins do not come to terms with him on an extension, they have the potential to lose him for nothing this off-season.

Given how well DiPietro has played, it is not surprising to hear that they are open to extending him beyond this season. This is especially so when noting that the Bruins' goaltending at the NHL level has struggled this season.

DiPietro, 25, joined the Bruins organization during the 2022-23 season when he was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks. In three career NHL games, the Windsor, Ontario native has a 0-2-0 record, a 5.25 goals-against average, and a .771 save percentage. He has yet to make his debut with Boston, and his last appearance at the NHL level was with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021-22.
