The Bruins landed two solid depth pieces at the deadline.

The Boston Bruins made no major splashes at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. However, they still added two solid players: forward Pat Maroon and defenseman Andrew Peeke. Let's discuss what each player will bring to Boston for the final stretch of the regular season and playoffs.

    Pat Maroon

Bruins fans know Maroon very well. Of course, he was a big thorn in their sides when he played for the St. Louis Blues during the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. The same can be said when he played for one of the Bruins' top division rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning. This is because he is a hard-nosed, gritty player who uses his 6-foot-3 size to his advantage.

Maroon, 35, is going to help the Bruins be a tougher team to go up against once he is fully recovered from surgery. However, besides bringing more feistiness, he also has the potential to give the Bruins' bottom six a bit more offense. In 49 games this season, he has four goals, 16 points, and 71 hits.

Maroon's playoff experience is also quite notable. He has three Stanley Cups on his resume and has played in 150 postseason games. That level of postseason expertise makes him a good veteran leader.

    Andrew Peeke

Peeke is an intriguing addition to the Bruins' lineup. The 6-foot-3 right-shot defenseman had dropped on the Columbus Blue Jackets' depth chart this season and sat several games because of it. However, this change of scenery will offer the Florida native the opportunity of a much-needed fresh start.

Peeke, 25, will likely compete with Kevin Shattenkirk for third-pairing minutes. Overall, he gives the Bruins a bit more defensive depth as they gear up for the postseason. He also will provide them with much more bite on the blue line, as he is a gritty, hard-hitting d-man. His 44 hits in 23 games this season show that.

Bringing in Peeke does come with risk. He is more than a rental, as he is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season, carrying a $2.75 million cap hit. Thus, bringing him in is a gamble for the Bruins, and it will be interesting to see if it pays off for both the player and the team.
