The Boston Bruins traded away multiple former key players at the 2025 NHL trade deadline after performing far below initial expectations. This included trading defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a conditional 2026 first-round pick and prospect Fraser Minten.

Trading Carlo was undoubtedly a significant move for the Bruins, as he was a major part of their blueline for several seasons before it. While they undoubtedly miss the right-shot defenseman, Minten has all the tools to be a huge part of the Bruins' long-term future.

Minten immediately showed promise after being acquired by the Bruins this season. In 11 regular-season games with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Providence Bruins, he posted three goals and seven points. He also got his first reps with Boston at the end of their season, posting one goal and 12 hits in six games.

Overall, Minten did not look out of place when given the opportunity to play for Boston, and he should have a real chance of making their NHL roster through training camp later this fall. The 20-year-old forward has all the tools to blossom into an impactful two-way center in the NHL, and the Bruins, without a doubt, need all the help they can get down the middle. Thus, he is a major prospect to keep an eye on moving forward.

Minten's offensive skill, smart defensive play, and grit should allow him to become a key part of the Bruins' roster in the near future. It is going to be interesting to see how he performs in 2025-26, but it is hard not to feel optimistic about his future with the Black and Gold.
