Before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres traded veteran defenseman Erik Johnson to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick. Due to his pending UFA status and the Sabres not holding a playoff spot, it was not surprising to see him moved.
Following the Flyers' most recent matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, which was on his birthday (March 21), Johnson was asked how his time in Philadelphia has been thus far. Here's what the 2006 first-overall pick had to say on the matter: “It’s been awesome. I’ve absolutely loved my time here. Philly is a great place to be, and it’s an honor to be a Flyer.”
It's great to hear that Johnson is enjoying his time with the Flyers. He's aiming to help secure them a playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division, while also being a key leader in his room because of his immense experience.
Johnson has appeared in six games since joining the Flyers, where he has zero points, 21 hits, and 13 blocks.
In 50 games with the Sabres this season, Johnson had three goals to go along with 93 hits.
