Former Buffalo Sabres captain Kyle Okposo has officially announced his retirement from professional hockey.

Okposo perfectly ended his 17-year NHL career by finally lifting the Stanley Cup for the first time this spring as a member of the Florida Panthers.

Okposo, 36, put together a long career in the sport's best league. In 1,051 NHL games split between the New York Islanders, Sabres, and Panthers, the 2006 seventh-overall pick had 242 goals, 372 assists, 614 points, and 953 hits. The St. Paul, Minnesota native was also an All-Star back in 2017.

Okposo spent eight of his NHL seasons with the Sabres, where he became a key part of their roster and eventual captain. In 516 games as a Sabre, he had 103 goals, 142 assists, and 245 points. His tenure with the club ended after the Sabres traded him to the Panthers before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline passed.

Following Okposo's announcement, the Sabres' official X account congratulated the veteran winger on his retirement.

Overall, Okposo had an impressive and lengthy NHL career. We here at The Hockey News Buffalo wish him the happiest of retirements.
