Erik Johnson is reportedly re-signing with the Flyers.

OTP - Is There A Jeff Skinner Decision Looming?

At the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres traded Erik Johnson to the Philadelphia Flyers. While it seemed that the veteran defenseman may only be a rental for Philly, that will now not be the case.

According to Anthony Di Marco, the Flyers will be re-signing Johnson to a one-year contract with an AAV of less than $2 million.

Johnson, 36, appeared in 67 games this past season split between the Sabres and Flyers, posting five goals, one assist, 97 blocks, 143 hits, and a minus-14 rating.

With Johnson expected to re-sign with the Flyers, he will continue to be a good leader and mentor for the club's younger players. It is always good for rebuilding clubs to have experienced veterans around to help shape the culture. This is likely why the Flyers will keep the 2006 first-overall pick around.

Overall, this is a low-risk move for a rebuilding Flyers club. Let's see how well Johnson performs for them in 2024-25 from here.
