Well, this was certainly unexpected.
The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Dallas Stars in Game 6 by a 2-1 final score on Sunday. Because of this, they will face off against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final. Game 1 will take place on Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena.
There is no question that the Oilers have a tough series ahead of them. The Panthers have an outstanding roster led by stars Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe, Aaron Ekblad, Sergei Bobrovsky, and Brandon Montour. In addition, after losing last year in the Stanley Cup Final to the Vegas Golden Knights, they are looking for redemption.
While speaking with reporters, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch was asked if he believes that the Panthers have an edge over Edmonton because they just played in the Stanley Cup Final last year. In response, Knoblauch surprisingly roasted the Buffalo Bills.
Here is what Knoblauch said on the matter: "Yeah, experience is good. I don't know how much experience is beneficial. You can ask the Buffalo Bills how important Super Bowl experience is."
This will undoubtedly leave a sour taste in the mouths of most Buffalo fans, as the Bills infamously lost four Super Bowls in a row from 1991 to 1994. Being reminded of that by the head coach of the Oilers is probably something that most people wouldn't have had on their Bingo cards.
With Knoblauch making fun of the Bills, are Buffalo Sabres fans going to cheer harder for the Panthers? Keep in mind they have a bunch of former Sabres on their roster in Reinhart, Montour, Evan Rodrigues, Kyle Okposo, and Dmitry Kulikov.
