This Sabre has understandably been nominated for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen has been named the Buffalo Sabres' nominee for the 2023-24 Bill Masterton Trophy.
The Bill Masterton Trophy is awarded each season to a player who "best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game of hockey." When looking at Luukkonen's campaign, it is fair to say that he warrants some real consideration.
Luukonen has been a feel-good story for the Sabres this season. Due to his excellent play, he has emerged as the club's definite starting goalie and is setting himself up for a nice raise this offseason.
UPL's journey to becoming the team's starter was a long one. The Sabres selected the 25-year-old in the second round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. After years of developing in the AHL, he got his first long chance with the Sabres last season. However, he has truly broken out this year.

In 49 appearances this season with the Sabres, UPL has a 25-20-3 record, a .910 SV%, 2.57 GAA, and five shutouts.
