One of the Buffalo Sabres' top objectives this offseason is to bring in an impactful center. Youngster Peyton Krebs struggled to produce as the club's third-line center, so they need a true upgrade.
When looking at this year's free agency class, one center that should be among their top targets is Winnipeg Jets forward Sean Monahan.
After multiple seasons in a row with injury trouble, Monahan bounced back in a major way in 2023-24. In a league-leading 83 games split between the Montreal Canadiens and Jets, the 2013 sixth-overall pick recorded 26 goals and 59 points. It was a strong year for the veteran, and he will have several suitors this summer because of it.

If the Sabres signed Monahan, he would give their middle six a significant boost offensively. Additionally, his high offensive IQ and playmaking ability would make him a clear choice for their power play if signed.
The Sabres have the cap space to sign a player like Monahan to a multi-year deal. Given that he would greatly improve their depth down the middle, they should seriously explore this avenue.
