The Sabres should take a shot on this underrated forward.

The Buffalo Sabres will look to strengthen their forward group this offseason. One of their specific needs is to add another scoring forward. This year's free agency class offers plenty, as players like Jake Guentzel, Sam Reinhart, Jonathan Marchessault, Jake DeBrusk, and Tyler Toffoli could hit the market on July 1.
However, while seeing the Sabres land a big fish would be exciting, there are also some solid under-the-radar free-agent targets who they should have on their radar. One of them is Detroit Red Wings forward Daniel Sprong.
Sprong, 27, quietly had a strong season with the Red Wings, posting 18 goals and 43 points in 76 games. When noting that he spent a good amount of time in Detroit's bottom six and only averaged 12:00 of ice time per night, this production is impressive.

This was the second season in a row that Sprong proved effective in a bottom-six role. In 66 games with the Seattle Kraken in 2022-23, he had 21 goals and 46 points.
With the Sabres needing more scoring in their bottom six, Sprong would have the potential to be a massive addition to their roster. He would be a significant upgrade over Victor Olofsson, who will not be back next season. In addition, Sprong would give the Sabres another sniper for their second power-play unit.
On a short-term deal, Sprong is precisely the scoring bottom-six forward the Sabres should take a flier on.
