The Sabres should target this Blues forward.
The Buffalo Sabres have been causing plenty of chatter in the rumor mill. This is because they are not only viewed as being sellers but also potential buyers if it helps them beyond this season.
As a result of the Sabres looking to become more competitive, they have been connected to some notable names as we get closer to the deadline. Some include Logan Couture, John Gibson, Scott Laughton, and Elvis Merzlikins. However, another one should be added to the list, as St. Louis Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich would be a massive addition for Buffalo to make.
Buchnevich, 28, is being viewed as a top trade target heading into the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. While the Blues are currently in the playoff race, they are retooling and could use Buchnevich's high value to bring in a significant return. With the Sabres having an elite prospect pool, they would have enough to land a star like him.
Buchnevich would provide the Sabres' top six with a major boost if acquired. Furthermore, his excellent two-way play would allow him to be an option for both their power play and their penalty kill if acquired. He also offers excellent versatility, being able to play both on the wing and down the middle.
Buchnevich would also be more than a rental for Buffalo, as he is under contract until the end of next season at a $5.8 million cap hit. That naturally helps add to his appeal as a trade target.
