The Sabres are being viewed as a solid fit for this Blues star.
There is a clear expectation that the Buffalo Sabres will be sellers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Yet, they also could be open to adding players that will help them beyond this season, as they are desperately trying to cement themselves as a playoff club as soon as possible.
Because of this, in a recent article for Daily Faceoff, Matt Larkin listed the Sabres as a potential trade destination to watch for St. Louis Blues star forward Pavel Buchnevich.
Here is what Larkin had to say about why the Sabres could look to add the skilled forward: "The Sabres need some established higher-end veteran players to help make them more competitive in the near future. Buchnevich, 28, would qualify as an investment for next season and, if the Sabres are doomed to miss the playoffs next year too, can be shopped as a rental asset."
There's no question that Buchnevich would have the potential to be a massive addition to the Sabres' roster. He would provide a big boost to their top six and would be an obvious choice for both of their special-team units because of his all-around solid play.
The Sabres should not be afraid to make a big splash for Buchnevich, as he would be more than a rental. While this campaign has been a bust, the Sabres' primary goal in 2024-25 will be to make the postseason. Adding a player like Buchnevich could be the boost they need to do just that.
It is also not a secret that the Sabres have been eyeing forwards with experience as we get closer to the deadline. Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton is the most notable one, but adding a player like Buchnevich would be even better, as he is far more impactful offensively.
The Sabres also have a ton of cap space, so bringing in Buchnevich and his $5.8 million cap hit would be quite easy for the club.
In 57 games this season, Buchnevich has 24 goals, 48 points, and a plus-11 rating.
