Roy was given a hearing by NHL Player Safety, which often leads to a suspension. However, the former Hurricanes forward has avoided being suspended and instead will pay a fine.
The incident happened at the 5:35 mark of overtime between the Golden Knights and Oilers in Game 2. While Roy was battling for a puck in the corner, he cross-checked Frederic in the face. Following the play, the Golden Knights forward was given a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct.
Roy, 28, was selected by the Hurricanes with the 96th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. In seven games with the Canes over two seasons from 2017-18 to 2018-19, he had zero points, nine hits, and a minus-1 rating. His time with the Canes ended when he was traded with a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Golden Knights in exchange for forward Erik Haula during the 2019 NHL off-season.
Since being traded to the Golden Knights, Roy has been a key part of their bottom six and penalty kill. In 362 games with the Golden Knights over seven seasons, he has posted 68 goals, 98 assists, 166 points, 406 hits, and a plus-38 rating.
