Fresh off shoulder surgery, the Hurricanes’ star winger beats his recovery timeline to bolster a surging lineup, promising a high-intensity debut against a powerhouse Western Conference opponent.

Seth Jarvis is set to make his season debut for the Carolina Hurricanes tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.

It's the long awaited return for Jarvis, who had shoulder surgery over the summer, and he feels that he is fully ready to hit the ground running.

"I'm going to go 100% first shift," Jarvis said. "I don't think I know any other way. The quicker I get into it, the more comfortable I'll be. Whether that's getting hit, throwing a hit, I'm fully confident I'll be good to go."

The 25 year old winger was initially given a 4-6 month time table for a return, but has beat the odds, returning just under four months since the surgery.

But that doesn't mean he was rushed back.

"They made it pretty clear they weren't going to rush me regardless [of team success]," Jarvis said. "It was nice to have that peace of mind and obviously I wanted the team to do as good as possible. To see them play as well as they have is amazing. Coming in, my only job here is to just elevate that and help us continue the streak."

Jarvis took line rushes alongside Jordan Martinook and Jesperi Kotkaniemi and is expected to play on the second power play unit as well.

We'll see how long it takes him to move his way further up the lineup, but for now, that's where he'll slot in.

"The most difficult thing will be just adjusting to game speed," Jarvis said. "I haven't had a ton of practices with the team, so just getting back to that. But body wise, I feel great. I think mentally I'm ready to go. It's just about getting back up to game speed."

Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour isn't going to ease him back into the lineup either, telling Hurricanes color analyst Tripp Tracy that he was "not going to put any blockers on" Jarvis.
