The Avalanche should add this University of Denver goalie to their prospect pool.
The University of Denver shocked the NCAA hockey world, defeating the No. 1 seeded Boston College by a 2-0 final score to secure the National Championship on Saturday (April 13). BC was viewed as the clear favorites for the matchup, sporting some of the game's top prospects like Cutter Gauthier, Gabe Perreault, Will Smith, Ryan Leonard, and Jacob Fowler. However, Denver stole the game, and it was mainly because of goaltender Matt Davis.
Davis, 22, was spectacular for Denver against BC, posting a 35-save shutout to lead the school to their 10th national title. His biggest save, however, came against Leonard. The Capitals' 2023 first-round pick had a wide-open net, but Davis made a stunning diving glove save to rob him.
Davis was not only dynamite in this championship-clinching game, but he was stellar throughout the entire NCAA tournament. He sported a ridiculous .979 save percentage in the tournament, saving 139 out of 142 shots he faced. This was after he had a strong regular season for the school, posting a .917 SV% and a 2.34 GAA in 31 appearances.
After a truly magnificent playoff run, Davis is very likely going to garner interest from NHL teams. The undrafted goalie proved throughout this season that he has promise, and the Colorado Avalanche need to consider making a push for him.

The Avalanche are certainly in a position to add a promising young netminder like Davis to their prospect pool. Goaltending is not the strongest area on their roster, so bringing in an NCAA star to their system could be worthwhile, even if it takes Davis some time to blossom into an NHL-caliber netminder.
Nevertheless, there would be virtually no harm in the Avalanche taking a look the star Denver netminder. Let's see if they end up making a push for him from here.
