The trial involving the 2018 Team Canada World Juniors team is scheduled to start on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

At the time of this writing, the proceedings are already underway, with journalist Rick Westhead sharing posts on X about what is happening in the courtroom.

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar was on that 2018 team. When talking to the press in early February of 2024, he stated, “I can’t stress enough that I wasn’t a part of that.”

The trial is underway in London, Ontario. Former NHL players, Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Dillion Dube, and Cal Foote are facing sexual assault charges in the case. On Tuesday morning, they all pleaded not guilty.

After that, the Crown Attorney read off a list of names of players who are not facing criminal charges but could be potential witnesses in the case. Drake Batherson, Jake Bean, Taylor Raddysh, Brett Howden, Maxime Comtois, Sam Steel, Boris Katchouk, Jonah Gadjovich, Dante Fabbro, Conor Timmins, Tyler Steenbergen, and Makar were all named as potential witnesses.

At this point in time, it is not known if the possible witnesses will need to testify in person or virtually. The trial is expected to last two months.
