According to reports from The Athletic and TSN, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to trade Nicholas Robertson.
For those who haven’t been following along with the Robertson saga in Toronto, he’s been dangling on the trade block for the last few seasons. But this year, it finally seems like a move could actually happen. The Columbus Blue Jackets could be a potential suitor.
The Blue Jackets could use more scoring in their lineup and have a trade candidate on their roster who might help get a deal done.
It could be wise for the Blue Jackets to offer Yegor Chinakhov in exchange for Robertson.
Both players could benefit from a change of scenery. They’re both scoring wingers who could likely be used higher in the lineup if they were on the opposing team.
For Robertson, he’s shown that he can really fire the puck, especially on the power play. Right now, he plays on the Maple Leafs’ third line and averages 11:12 of ice time. If he were on the Blue Jackets’ third line, he’d likely be averaging closer to 15:50. Those extra four minutes a night could bring out another level in his game.
The Blue Jackets might have to offer a bit more than just Chinakhov, especially since he hasn’t played a game for the club this season. Still, that could be as simple as adding a later-round draft pick.
Regardless, it may be smart for the Blue Jackets to at least inquire about Robertson’s availability.
