Contract talks for key Blue Jackets Boone Jenner and Adam Fantilli are on hold until February. Waddell confirms mutual desire to reach agreements.

Yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets' general manager Don Waddell provided an update regarding the contract status' of both Adam Fantilli and Boone Jenner. He was a guest on Daily Faceoff and had some great things to say.

According to Waddell, both sides have decided to shelf the contract talks until during the Olympic break in February.

Here is what he had to say:

“I’ve talked to both representations from both players (Fantilli and Jenner), along with some other not only free agents but restricted to guys and, you know, pretty much we’ve all agreed let’s play to the Olympic break. There’s no big rush, you know, from any end. Boone is our captain; he’s been here since Day One, certainly a player that we want to keep here, and I think he wants to stay here. Obviously, you get to meet the demands and come to a deal that makes sense for both teams. And Fantilli, I’ve dealt with (agent) Pat (Brisson) for many, many years. We had a good meeting in late August and said, ‘let’s table it, let’s see how things go here off the start and we’ll get together as the season progresses.’ So, no live negotiations going on right now.”

Although the contract talks are being pushed until the new year, it is clear that both players do want to be with the organization. For Jenner, if they can get a contract extension done, it'll take his name off of any trade bait board.

As for Fantilli, well he is a restricted free agent, so the Blue Jackets own his rights, which makes it a bit less of a worry. Unless, of course he is a victim of an offer-sheet but it seems the extension will be done before that is ever a thought.

Waddell did also mention that if the club could get any of these deals done earlier, they wouldn't hesitate.
