    The Dallas Stars made a pair of moves Thursday afternoon, one day before the NHL trade deadline ends.

    Dallas signed Connor Punnett to a three-year entry-level contract that will begin in the 2024-25 season. The Stars also acquired forward Emilio Pettersen from the Calgary Flames in exchange for forward Riley Damiani.

    Punnett, a 20-year-old defenseman from Powassan, Ontario, has recorded 50 points (9-41-50) in 59 regular season games for the Oshawa Generals and Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League. Among OHL blueliners, he ranks eighth in points, second in penalty minutes (108), and is tied for seventh in assists (41).

    Punnett played the first 34 games of the regular season with Barrie before being traded to Oshawa January 9. Over four OHL seasons, Punnett has registered 115 points (30-85-115) and 324 PIM in 240 games.

    Pettersen was acquired from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Damiani, who has 23 points (10-13-23) in 53 games with the Texas Stars this season.

    In 204 career AHL games, Damiani has recorded 126 points (47-79-126) and has made two appearances in the Calder Cup playoffs., registering three points (2-1-3) in eight games.

    A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Damiani has appeared in seven NHL games, recording two points (1-1-2).

    The 23-year-old Pettersen has 30 points (7-23-30) in 54 games with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL this season. He ranks second on the team in assists (23) and fourth in points (30). He finished the 2022-23 season with 44 points (19-25-44) in 61 contests, ranking third on the Wranglers in plus/minus (+23), fifth in points and sixth in assists.

    Pettersen has 203 career AHL games under his belt, all with the Wranglers, posting 114 points (45-69-114). He will be assigned to the Texas Stars.

    While this may not move the needle in excitement among Stars fans who are waiting for another big move before Friday's 3 Pm ET deadline, the Stars are looking ahead and building more depth for the future. Stay close to The Hockey News for any other developments as they occur.
