Everything you need to know ahead of tonight's Red Wings-Panthers game in Sunrise, FL

Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings will take on the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena on the fringe of the Everglades in Sunrise.

Stars on Both Side Set to Miss Tonight's game

Both teams will be without star players tonight in Sunrise.  On the Red Wings' side, Patrick Kane is set to be out at least through the weekend.  Meanwhile, captain Aleksander Barkov (second on the team in points at 46) will not dress for the Panthers this evening.

Lyon to Start in Florida Homecoming

Alex Lyon is set to start tonight for the Red Wings, which will represent a homecoming for him, having starred in the Panthers' improbable turnaround from an Atlantic afterthought to the Stanley Cup final.

Lyon earned a .912 save percentage and 2.89 goals against average in his time with Florida.  Given that his free agency departure for Detroit seems to have worked out well for both parties, here's to hoping Lyon receives a warm welcome tonight in South Florida.

When Last These Two Met

In early November, the Panthers beat the Red Wings 2-0 in Detroit.  It was an error-filled night for the Red Wings, but the game was scoreless going into the final minute of the second period, when James Reimer allowed a harmless Steven Lorentz shot to go off his glove, then the crossbar, then his back, and in for the game's first goal.

Detroit was unable to rally in the third, instead yielding a late-empty netter to Anton Lundell, which sealed their defeat.

Tonight, Detroit will have the chance to put its strong 2024 form to the test against an opponent that plays the kind of heavy forechecking game that's plagued it throughout the season.

Where to Watch

Tonight's game (a 7 PM puck drop) will be on its usual home of Bally Sports Detroit.  However, after today's Sabres-Blackhawks game was postponed due to inclement weather in Buffalo, the game will be broadcast nationally on TNT
