EDMONTON -- Once an Edmonton Oiler, ,always an Edmonton Oiler.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Vegas Golden Knights by a 5-1 score. Perhaps the most impressive thing was they did it without the help of their top forward, Connor McDavid.

That was certainly the most newsworthy item on the agenda - however, there was an Oilers alumni in the standings, taking in all the sights and sounds of the matchup.

Showing up on the jumbotron early on in the game last night was none other than number 94 himself, Ryan Smyth. The player who embodied hard work and greasy goals long before Zach Hyman found his way to Alberta's capital.

Smyth was known for his tenacity around the net and his penchant for scoring Hyman-esque goals. Smyth is ranked ninth all-time in Oilers point scoring. In 971 games he had 296 goals to go along with 335 assists.
