Elliotte Friedman reports that the Edmonton Oilers had a few trades they were exploring.
EDMONTON -- It's been three days since the trade deadline. And what a busy couple of days for the Edmonton Oilers.
They just finished a back-to-back to close out their road trip. They had a wild 3-2 shootout loss to the Buffalo Sabres followed by a 4-0 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday.

Adding Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick and Troy Stecher was the full extent of the Oilers trade deadline acquisitions. However, one insider is revealing that the organization had a few other irons in the fire that they were taking into consideration.
On the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discussed the Oilers trade deadline results - as well as some things that didn't happen.

Friedman is curious about where the Oilers go from here. Particularly in the summer before next season, "I'm going to be very curious about what Edmonton did not do. I think they had a few irons out there, obviously they were around on [Chris] Tanev. But I think there were a couple others."
Then Friedman talked about the Oilers considering moving some players out in addition to the players they brought in.

"I think they considered some subtractions from their team [they] ultimately decided not to do it. I know everybody's talking about [Cody] Ceci and I mentioned on the [Spittin'] Chicklets Pod last week that I think some players had indicated they preferred to keep Ceci around. But I don't think he was the only one."

At first blush that makes it seem like the players blocked any potential trade that the Oilers could have had for Ceci - but Friedman suggests that (outside of Chris Tanev) that might not have been the case.
"What it says to me is there just wasn't anything put in their way that they felt the need to do that for [trade away Ceci]."

It's one thing for a team to want to get rid of a player - it's another to have a team be willing to acquire said player.
For now, Ceci remains on the team until the summer. After that? There could be a lot of changes happening in Oil Country.
