Connor McDavid is in the company of legends.
The Edmonton Oilers' legendary centre Connor McDavid is now in his seventh season with 100 points or more, so he is rising to a higher pedestal than a contemporary star.
He notched an assist and 24:18 of ice time on Thursday night on the road against the Columbus Blue Jackets - thus becoming the third NHL player with 100 or more points this season.

The points leader is the Colorado Avalanche's elite centreman Nathan MacKinnon (109), and in second is Tampa Bay Lightning right-winger Nikita Kucherov (106).
But the 27-year-old Canadian McDavid is going down in history too, whose name deserves to be exalted to the level of The Great One.
Statistics are taken from the NHL.com Media Site.
With his seventh 100-point season, McDavid is only the third NHL player in history to rack up seven with 100 points or more before reaching 28 years of age.
The other two include The Great One, the legend of hockey history, Wayne Gretzky, who had 10, and former Pittsburgh Penguins centre and NHL legend Mario Lemieux, who had eight.
McDavid is also going down in Oilers history specifically. The only player who currently has more 100-point seasons than him as an Oiler is Gretzky. He notched nine consecutive ones between the 1979-80 and 1987-88 seasons.
It is also McDavid's fourth 100-point season in a row, one of the longest streaks in Oilers history. Jari Kurri recorded five consecutive ones between the 1982-83 and 1986-87 seasons, and the winner is Gretzky again with his nine as an Oiler.
