EDMONTON -- Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.

This slogan from long-time running daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives can accurately describe what it's like to be an Edmonton Oilers fan this summer. This offseason has been full of everything from an exciting wedding, to a new General Manager, to saying hello and goodbye to a plethora of players.

Then yesterday a metaphorical bomb gets dropped on the Oilers - Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway have signed offer sheets with the St. Louis Blues.

As I wrote about yesterday, this puts greater emphasis on Evander Kane and his status to begin the year. A new episode of the most famous hockey podcast out there has revealed some new information about Kane.

In a solo episode, Elliotte Friedman spoke at length about the Oilers on a variety of different topics. In this episode of the 32 Thoughts podcast he seemingly confirmed what most already know now, "I believe Evander Kane is going to have surgery."

Then Friedman dives into why the decision to have (or not have surgery) has taken Kane and his camp all the way to the middle of August to determine, "one of the reasons it's taken this long was because there was some conversations about who was going to do it (surgery), which doctor, and I think they had to work that out."

"Secondly...in the summer doctors take vacations like anyone else, and I think that kind of affected it. They had to decide who was going to do it and then when was this doctor available. I believe that decision has been made."

As for a timeline for Kane's return post-surgery, it won't be a quick process to rehab, "he's going to be out months. I'm not talking 1 or 2 months, I think it's going to be longer than that."

All of this is going to be interesting for Oilers fans to follow along with in the next few days, weeks and beginning of the season.
