EDMONTON -- As one would expect, last night's game was entertaining to say the least.

It always is when the Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche collide. Nathan MacKinnon versus Connor McDavid seems like a gift given from the hockey gods. Last night certainly didn't disappoint.

One stand out from the Oilers was Mattias Ekholm. He continued his rock solid play defensively, contributed two points and played a physical game.

The Steady Swede notched a goal, an assist, four shots and four hits in 21:23 of ice time. There was one hit however, that made a bigger impact than expected.

From being at the game in the press box last night I can say this - the replay I saw on the jumbotron showed shoulder-to-shoulder contact on this hit. Unfortunately, Mikko Rantanen landed head first onto the ice. My suspicion is that he (mostly likely) has a concussion.

It was a clean hit, with an extremely unfortunate end result. After the game Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reported on Rantanen's condition via head coach Jared Bednar. Bednar said that Rantanen, "will be under evaluation for a while."

Hopefully it's nothing serious and Rantanen has a speedy recovery.
