Only two days after making one emergency recall, the Edmonton Oilers are running it back.

Cam Dineen is returning to the Oilers for this emergency recall. Derek Ryan has also been called up on an emergency basis.

This transaction follows the Oilers' 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night. The Oilers had to finish the game without Zach Hyman and Mattias Ekholm.

This emergency recall makes sense on a couple of levels.

Oilers Need All Hands On Deck

For starters, it’s poor optics to emergency recall Dineen when they could have just waited until this morning to send him back to the Bakersfield Condors. However, hindsight is 20-20, and there is no limit to the number of emergency recalls a team has at this time of year. So, no harm, no foul.

Ryan, on the other hand, has been a good soldier for the Oilers. He’s been a solid depth player who provides head coach Kris Knoblauch with much utility.

Oilers Make New Emergency Roster Moves EDMONTON – Emergency call-ups are a staple of this time of year.

He can be used at center, as a winger, on the penalty kill, and is a right-handed shot. Ryan has been up and down between the Oilers and Condors this season, and has done everything the organization has asked of him.

The Oilers have a back-to-back situation coming up. They play the Winnipeg Jets on the road on Sunday and then face the Los Angeles Kings at home on Monday. As a team, you want as many players available to you as possible.

Bringing Ryan and Dineen up gives the Oilers all the players they need.
