Edmonton Oilers have closed the gap between them and the Vancouver Canucks.
EDMONTON -- The closer the season gets to the end, the stranger things seem to be.

There are teams who have overcome slow starts to now be in playoff contention - namely the Edmonton Oilers. Additionally, there are teams who burst onto the scene of the 2023-24 season and are now stumbling to get over the finish line - the Vegas Golden Knights being one example of this.
The other example would be another Pacific Division opponent, the Vancouver Canucks. Last night was the latest stutter step from the Canucks, which was a 6-3 loss to the Los Angeles Kings.

At the end of the night last night, the Oilers are now a mere three points behind the Canucks.
This is an incredible accomplishment for the Oilers - and one that should put the rest of the Pacific Division on notice. On February 15th, the Oilers were 17 points back of the Canucks.
With six games left the Oilers have one game in hand on the Canucks to close the remaining gap.
The Canucks have games against the Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, Calgary Flames, Arizona Coyotes and Oilers left. Conversely, the Oilers have two games against the Coyotes and one against each of the San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Golden Knights, and Canucks.
Both team's next game comes against the Golden Knights - which could turn the tide one way or another for the battle for first in the Pacific Division.
