EDMONTON -- Edmonton Oilers fans need to pay attention to this.

The Vegas Golden Knights seem to have something to play for. Yesterday they came from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime.
The Avalanche had a 3-0 lead heading into the third period - where the Golden Knights rallied for three goals to force the extra frame. Tomas Hertl would score the game winning goal 1:23 into overtime. William Karlsson scored two goals in the third - his game tying marker being his 30th goal of the season.
Although they are locked into a playoff spot, the Golden Knights seem to be making a push at the end of the season. Both the Los Angeles Kings and the Golden Knights have two games remaining. The Kings play the Minnesota Wild tonight and then the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday - while the Golden Knights play the Blackhawks tomorrow and the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.
The Golden Knights have the easier remaining schedule and are one point back of the Kings. If the playoffs started today they would play the Dallas Stars in the first round.
However, if they make a push and pass the Kings in the standings, they would play the Oilers in the first round. That only happens if the Kings lose in regulation to either the Wild or Blackhawks and the Golden Knights win both of their games.
They could easily ride out the last two games of the regular season and rest their top players and gear up for the playoffs. But that doesn't seem to be what the Golden Knights are doing.
