Attention now turns to the trade deadline - which is only two days away. Now there is news that another trade target for the Oilers has come off of the trade board.
Darren Dreger is reporting that the Florida Panthers have acquired Vladimir Tarasenko from the Ottawa Senators. The Panthers are a formidable Eastern Conference team - who were rumored to be involved in trade conversations with several players.
The final trade is a 2024 4th round pick and a 2025 3rd round pick. The 4th round pick becomes a 2026 3rd round pick if the Panthers win the Stanley Cup.
The Oilers had Tarasenko in their sights. For the player, he had a full no-trade clause - so he needed to sign off on whichever team was going to acquire him.
On paper, the Panthers adding Tarasenko to their forward group looks great on paper. Time will tell to see where he fits into their lineup.
According to Bruce Garrioch, the Panthers was his preferred destination. He has family out there that he wanted to be closer to.
Targets still available for the Oilers to trade for: Jake Guentzel, Tyler Toffoli, Adam Henrique, Frank Vatrano, Jordan Eberle, and Pavel Buchnevich.
