The Edmonton Oilers could have their newest acquisition play his first game on Saturday - or it could be later.

Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner has been giving Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck a run for his money.

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers won against the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 in a game that even some of the players described as "not exciting." Calvin Pickard made 27 saves for his fifth career shutout - first of the 2023-24 regular season.

They improve to 28-15-1 on the season, which is good for 57 points. They trail the Vegas Golden Knights by five points and have four games in hand. On the other side of things, the Los Angeles Kings four points behind the Oilers having played one more game than them.

Next on the itinerary for the Oilers is a Saturday matinee game against the Nashville Predators. This will be the third and final game they play against the Predators. The season series is split 1-1.

On Monday both Ken Holland and Kris Knoblauch made it sound like Corey Perry would be playing his first game as an Oiler on Saturday. If Knoblauch's media availability is any indication, the decision may not be as cut-and-dry as expected.

"We've got some decisions on what comes next. We've got the addition of Corey [Perry] possibly Saturday. We'll decide what we are going to do there. Whether he plays on Saturday...we'll decide that tomorrow after practice."

Knoblauch is (understandably) cautious when it comes to the newest addition to the Oilers team. Remaining non-committal about when Perry will start playing is probably the best course of action.
