The week started with some news from Frank Seravalli that John Gibson of the Anaheim Ducks wants out of the team. It would not be a good idea whatsoever for the Oilers to pursue him, as he is not an upgrade on their present tandem.

We also got a contract update on Evan Bouchard. Elliotte Friedman reported on his 32 Thoughts podcast that the new deal could be two-year deal with a $3.5-million to $4-million cap hit.

Across the NHL there were 22 players who elected to file for arbitration, and the Oilers' Ryan McLeod was one of them. This isn't at all a negative thing, just part of the process to ensure that McLeod doesn't get sent an offer sheet while also ensuring that a deal is resolved before the beginning of the season.

The Oilers made a minor signing in extending goalie prospect Olivier Rodrigue for another year with a $775,000 cap hit. Rodrigue is expected to battle for the starter's role with the AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.

Lastly, Tyson Barrie is getting married this weekend. A lot of his former teammates are with him to celebrate. Current Oilers Connor McDavid and Darnell Nurse are in attendance.
