EDMONTON -- He did it. Even if it only lasted a few minutes, he actually did it.
Even if it's just for the moment - Connor McDavid has taken over the NHL scoring lead with a three point night, as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-1.

McDavid came into the afternoon matinee only one point behind Nathan MacKinnon for third overall in league scoring. He scored his 28th and 29th goal on fantastic plays. On the sixth goal of the night for the Oilers, McDavid registered his 96th assist.
In addition to the Colorado Avalanche playing, the Tampa Bay Lightning also saw game action last night. Once the dust settled, McDavid found himself in third place (again) with 125 points. Nikita Kucherov is up to 126 points with MacKinnon up to a league leading 127 points.

The fact that (in the span of a few months) McDavid went from outside of the top 100 in scoring - to knocking down the door on a sixth Art Ross Trophy is nothing short of spectacular.
A huge part of his end of season push was his performance in the month of March. In 15 games he tallied 31 points, the most of any player in the entire month. He also led the league with 10 power play points in March.

McDavid made great strides with 24 assists in those 15 games. That's six more assists than the next closest players (Evan Bouchard and Kucherov).
With 10 games left, McDavid has a lot of runway before the end of the season. It will be an entertaining finish to the year - as the Oilers have their final game on the road against the Avalanche.
