Sleepers and Keepers Podcast: We Were Right About Jack Hughes and Andrei Kuzmenko

Ivan Barbashev, C/LW, VEG at FLA (47% rostered)

A goal against the Lightning gives Barbashev four tallies in five games, and he’s doing it on limited ice time, too, averaging roughly 15 minutes per game. It’s a weird matinee start, which puts the Knights at a disadvantage, but Barbashev’s got the hot hand and remains their top-line left winger.

Troy Terry, RW, ANA vs. CGY (39% rostered)

Leo Carlsson (knee) is not expected to play, but the Ducks may see the return of Trevor Zegras, who skated on L1 with Terry and Alex Killorn. Terry was ice-cold in November but his scoring has picked up a lot with six points in his past six games.

JJ Peterka, RW, BUF at NYR (31% rostered)
Jack Quinn, RW, BUF at NYR (4% rostered)

Both of the Sabres’ young prospects would be good options, though the slight edge goes to Quinn because he tends to shoot more often. Peterka’s on a bit of a hot run with four points in six games, and both are featured on PP2.

Dawson Mercer, C/RW, NJ vs. DET (23% rostered)

Mercer’s coming off a two-point effort against the Oilers, scoring four points in five games, but I really like this matchup. The Devils should bounce back after a lackluster effort, and the Wings are in a pickle with their goaltending; they’ll be forced to start James Reimer in back-to-back games, who blew a 5-1 lead, or start Michael Hutchinson in his season debut after recently signing a two-way contract.

Nick Paul, C/LW, TB at WSH (17% rostered)

The Caps have been quite good at limiting goals, but it’s going to be hard to keep the Bolts off the board, averaging four goals per game in their past four games. Paul, in particular, has been on fire; he’s coming off two straight three-point efforts, and he’s a multi-category contributor (hits, faceoffs) who’s getting tons of minutes.

Brock FaberBrock Faber

Brock Faber, D, MIN vs. BOS (15% rostered)

Faber’s fantasy value is climbing significantly, skating over 30 minutes in four of his past five games and currently on a three-game point streak. He’s quarterbacking PP1 and playing tons in Jared Spurgeon’s absence and, at this rate, might end up being the Wild’s No. 1 defenseman until the end of the season. Faber’s worth more than just a stream; he might be worth stashing and could turn the tide for fantasy teams looking for quality defense in the second half of the season.

Matias Maccelli, LW, ARI at COL (11% rostered)

Maccelli displaced Logan Cooley on PP1, giving him a boost in fantasy value, and he’s on a two-game points streak. The Avs are excellent on offense but not great in net; that’s good for Maccelli, who’s increased his shot rate this season.

Thomas Harley, D, DAL at NSH (10% rostered)

Harley’s been excellent with three goals and five points in his past four games. He’s not close to Miro Heiskanen’s level, but Harley’s offense is one of the best parts of his game and might be a better option for the Stars if they want to generate offense from their blueline. Harley’s scored nine goals on 43 shots in 28 games this season, tied with Rasmus Dahlin and Quinn Hughes for most goals by a defenseman this season.

Marco Rossi, C, MIN vs. BOS (9% rostered)

If you’re looking for a potential keeper, Rossi is him. With three points and 17 PIM last game, Rossi’s been a fantastic multi-category contributor and the Wild’s No. 2 center. He joins their top line and Brock Faber to form a dangerous power play unit, though the Bruins PK ranks first in the league.

Yegor Chinakhov, RW, CLB vs. TOR (9% rostered)

The Leafs should come out with a much better defensive effort after a 9-3 loss to the Sabres, but their goaltending remains very suspect. Chinakhov’s goal in his last game against the Caps extended his points streak to six games, and his line with Dmitri Voronkov and Kirill Marchenko might as well be their top line given how well they’ve played and receiving roughly 19 minutes per game on most nights.

Conor Garland, RW, VAN vs. SJ (7% rostered)

The Canucks’ third line is arguably the best third line in the league right now. Garland and Dakota Joshua, who’s also worth streaming if you need hits in banger leagues, combined for four points against the Stars in their last game. Garland has scored five points in his past five games, and though he’s not particularly adept at finishing, this is a great matchup for the Canucks.
