On every game day this season, THN Fantasy will highlight players and goalies for fantasy managers to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies can be used in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.
Patrik Laine, LW, MON vs. WSH (52% rostered)
I think Laine deserves a special mention here because he was available in over half of Yahoo leagues as of yesterday, and he still pretty much is. He's scored power-play goals in back-to-back games, and this Caps team has allowed at least four goals in three of their past four games.
Pavel Buchnevich, C/LW, STL at EDM (43% rostered)
Dylan Holloway, C/LW, STL at EDM (19% rostered)
Buchnevich scored a goal in his first game back from injury and Holloway's on a five-game points streak in a potential revenge game. The Blues have split up their usual Robert Thomas-Jordan Kyrou combo - that's probably a good thing - to make two balanced scoring lines with Buchnevich on L1 with Thomas and Holloway playing opposite Kyrou on L2.
Buchnevich has more offensive potential because he plays PP1 and generally plays more minutes, but don't overlook Holloway, who's a good source of hits and shots if he's not scoring points. I think Holloway has the higher floor in multi-category leagues but Buchnevich has the higher ceiling.
Logan Cooley, C, UTA at BUF (39% rostered)
Usually young centers can be a liability in fantasy because they don't win as many faceoffs as you'd think, but Cooley wins enough of them that it's not an issue. The upside is you get a very talented playmaker with PP1 minutes who's scored eight points in his past six games facing an opponent without their captain and top defenseman.
Anders Lee, LW, NYI vs. CAR (39% rostered)
I don't blame anyone if they're late jumping onto the Lee bandwagon because his run has been a little incredulous. He's up to eight points in five games now after shooting mostly blanks at the beginning of the season. With good L1/PP1 deployment and lots of shooting and hitting volume, I think Lee is still a good streaming option.
Cole Perfetti, C/LW, WPG at CHI (38% rostered)
Perfetti's boom-or-bust, but I like the matchup. He has not scored a point in three games and his ice time yo-yo's, but Perfetti did play six minutes (!) on the power play last game with the first unit. This will be the Hawks' first game since Luke Richardson was fired, but I doubt they'll be any better defensively than they were before.
Marco Rossi, C, MIN at LA (23% rostered)
With Joel Eriksson Ek injured, Rossi steps in as their top center between Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy. There's no better situation than that for Rossi, who will also play with them on the top PP unit. Rossi's play has been inconsistent this season, and the Kings can be a very stingy defensive team, but the deployment is good and Rossi's going to get more minutes than he did before.
Lane Hutson, D, MON vs. WSH (34% rostered)
Hutson's on a five-game assist streak and any more points, or even a multi-point game, and Hutson is likely going to get picked up in a lot of leagues. He assisted on Laine's PPG for the second game in a row and the Habs power play has looked dangerous for really the first time all season.
Bowen Byram, D, BUF vs. UTA (31% rostered)
Byram can be frustrating in fantasy because he skates a lot of minutes but doesn't produce a whole lot statistically to show for it. That might change, however, with Utah's 23rd-ranked PK, and Byram took some shifts with PP1 in Owen Power's place last game. Byram has yet to register a single PPP this season - that drought should end soon.
Philip Broberg, D, STL at EDM (18% rostered)
Like Holloway, this is a potential revenge game for Broberg. After a lengthy absence due to injury, Broberg is piling the points yet again, scoring three in his past three games while averaging over 24 minutes per game. Colton Parayko has been tasked with quarterbacking PP1, but I wouldn't be surprised if Broberg is tapped to replace him. If Broberg maintains this pace, we'll be seeing more of him in fantasy.
Honorable mention:
Tyson Foerster, C/RW, PHI at BOS (2% rostered) - L3, PP2
Nick Schmaltz, C/RW, UTA at BUF (22% rostered) - L1, PP1
Jason Zucker, LW, BUF vs. UTA (5% rostered) - L1, PP1
Eric Robinson, LW, CAR at NYI (0% rostered) - L2
Maxim Tsyplakov, LW, NYI vs. CAR (6% rostered) - L2, PP2
Matthew Knies, LW, TOR at PIT (50% rostered) - L1, PP1
Bryan Rust, RW, PIT vs. TOR (33% rostered) - L1, PP1
Rickard Rakell, C/RW, PIT vs. TOR (27% rostered) - L1, PP1
