There were some new faces on the ice when the Florida Panthers gathered for a Monday morning workout in Fort Lauderdale.
It was Florida’s first formal practice following Friday’s NHL Trade Deadline.
Despite rumors swirling about several Panthers players potentially being included in deadline deals, including veteran goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky, the Cats ultimately stood pat.
The only changes coming to Florida’s post-Deadline roster are on the incoming side of things, as Panthers GM Bill Zito added a pair of depth forwards to the group.
Zito acquired former Panther Vinnie Hinostroza for future considerations in a trade with the Minnesota Wild, then picked up forward Cole Reinhardt off waivers from the Vegas Golden Knight.
Both were on the ice Monday at the Baptist Health IcePlex, Hinostroza wearing No. 24 and Reinhardt No. 29.
During line rushes and drills, Hinostroza skated on the right side of a group with Jesper Boqvist and Luke Kunin. Reinhardt and Jonah Gadjovich skated as extras.
Afterwards, Panthers Head Coach Paul Maurice said Hinostroza would play in Florida’s next game, which is Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings.
“When you bring guys in, there’s a bit of a routine the first practice and one or two drills that are specific to some things that we do, and then we have a video package that we take these guys through,” Maurice said. “There isn’t anything necessarily brand new for them, but every team has a different continuity to their system, so that will be important for them.”
Seth Jones was also on the ice for practice, but both he and Gadjovich will remain out while recovering from respective injuries.
Absent from the skate were forwards Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart.
Marchand, who has been battling injuries for much of the season, may end up missing time. He's going to meet with doctors this week. More on that coming later on THN Florida.
As mentioned, the Panthers will conclude their home and home matchup with Detroit on Tuesday, with puck drop from Amerant Bank Arena set for 7 p.m.
