Former Montreal Canadiens goaltending legend Carey Price is about to embark on a new journey: his son Lincoln's first season of minor hockey.
When Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price held a press conference in September 2023, he explained that his knee injuries didn’t allow him to play and perform at his own standards and said he would try to rehab his knee to a point where it's fit for life in general. He also added that he wanted to be able to play with his kids as they grew up, and according to a recent Q&A his wife, Angela, held on her Instagram account, he’ll get to do just that this year.
Photo credit: Angela Price Instagram accountMrs Price was asked whether any of the couple’s three children played hockey, and she replied that their youngest, Lincoln, who was born in October 2020, would be playing his first season this year, and she posted a picture of Price helping his son put on full hockey gear. That right there is what Price “retired” for: being able to enjoy these moments of family life.
Although the netminder has yet to formally announce his retirement, he did have a celebratory retirement weekend earlier this summer, which was organized by his wife, Angela, and in which many former Canadiens teammates took part.
Price will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame this November, and he should therefore be honored at the Bell Center and added to the Ring of Honor this season, as is tradition when a former Habs player punches their ticket to the Hall. When he stepped away from the game, Price was the winningest goaltender in Canadiens history, and his 361 wins with the franchise shouldn’t be beaten anytime soon. He’s also third in shootouts with 49, behind Jacques Plante (58) and Georges Hainsworth (75). He also had a .917 save percentage over the course of his career and a 2.51 goals-against average.
