Former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price celebrated his retirement in style over the last weekend, and the celebration featured a lot of former Habs, some of whom were a bit surprising.
When the 2025-26 season ended, former Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price’s contract ended. While the legendary netminder hasn’t played a single game since the 2021-22 season, he hasn’t officially retired, but it seems like an official announcement may be coming soon.

Ellerby Instagram accountThis weekend, Price and his wife, Angela, hosted what she called a retirement weekend on her Instagram account at the Brush Creek Ranch in Saratoga, Wyoming. While there were many guests at the event, one picture on Julie Petry’s Instagram account, captioned "epic reunion," features many former Habs: Charlie Lindgren, Karl Alzner, Andrew Shaw, Jeff Petry, Jake Allen, Paul Byron, and P.K. Subban. It’s always interesting to find out which teammates a player was closest to.
In another picture, Subban is posing with the Price family, and the Line Change owner has captioned the pic “Always there for the important moments”. That’s far from surprising since Price and Subban got on very well before the blueliner was sent to the Nashville Predators in a trade for Shea Weber 10 years ago today. When Subban was honored by the Canadiens after his retirement, Price was on hand to have one last triple low five on the Bell Centre ice. It was the duo’s win celebration until Michel Therrien forbade it for not being inclusive enough; one can wonder what the former bench boss would have made of the “circle of friendship” celebration that captain Nick Suzuki has with a few teammates.

Last week, Price was voted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he were signed to a one-day contract to announce his retirement as a member of the Canadiens. Even if Kent Hughes traded his contract to the San Jose Sharks so as not to have it in the Habs’ books anymore in September 2025, he never played a single NHL game as a member of another team and should be allowed the honor of retiring as a member of the Sainte-Flanelle.
