Trotz Prepared to Utilize 2 Prospects Over Making Trade

The Nashville Predators are in an interesting place heading into the 2024 trade deadline. The team is not only rumored to be moving a piece or two, but at the same time, may make a couple additions to help this season and potentially the future.

According to Barry Trotz, the Predators general manager, "the prices are ridiculous for what GMs are asking for on the market for rentals...If (Juuso) Parssinen or (Philip) Tomasino are better than the guys we're looking at to acquire, then I wouldn't make the deal."

Considering the Predators are in eighth place in the conference, Trotz is likely looking for a deal to bring someone in. It is not worth making a huge move for a rental if Nashville might only get him for 20 games or so.

It is a different conversation if the Predators can find themselves a player with a bit of term, even one more year on his deal. This way whatever the Predators pay, they will get said player for over 100 games and hopefully two playoff runs.

Both Parssinen and Tomasino spent significant time in the NHL this season with the Predators and have both proven that they belong there. It is just a matter of time before we see both of them back up in the NHL contributing. It may come as soon as a few days after the trade deadline has passed this season. Trotz seems to have confidence in both of the young forwards' games, so much so that he thinks they would help out more than some potential rental additions that are available.
