Former New Jersey Devils forward Stefan Matteau has retired from professional hockey. Matteau's current team, the Cleveland Monsters, announced the news on May 12.

Matteau, 31, was selected by the Devils with the 29th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. From there, the 6-foot-2 winger played his first three NHL seasons with the Devils, posting three goals, two assists, 83 hits, and a minus-10 rating.

Matteau's time with the Devils ended during the 2015-16 season when he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Devante Smith-Pelley.

Following his time with the Devils, Matteau had stints with the Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Colorado Avalanche. In 92 career NHL games over seven seasons, he had six goals, 11 points, 181 hits, and a minus-18 rating.

Matteau spent the last two seasons of his playing career in the AHL with the Monsters. In 15 games this season with the AHL squad, he had two goals, seven points, eight penalty minutes, and an even plus/minus rating.
