The road trip continues for the Philadelphia Flyers as they travel to Quebec to take on the Montreal Canadiens, hoping to collect two points against the last-place Atlantic Division side.
After a strong display against the New York Rangers, the Flyers will also be looking to capitalize on the excellent individual performances of their players, and fans will be watching out to see if they continue to make improvements to the powerplay and their overtime units (should the game come to that).
The Habs might be in last place in the Atlantic, but the worst thing the Flyers could do is treat them like it. At this point in the season, with how tight the Metropolitan Division playoff race has become, they need to treat this game like a Cup final. Their opponents still have plenty of dangerous players—like Cole Caufield, as Canadiens fans on Twitter felt the need to remind everyone this morning—and the Flyers will no doubt be feeling some wear and tear from traveling and playing an incredibly demanding seven-game stretch. There's been some concerns regarding burnout and overwork for many, but they've proven that they can keep up with even the best sides during thfis gauntlet.
Tyson Foerster has had a breakout season, and he's only getting better with every game. His current 19 goals put him third (but not far behind) Marco Rossi (20 goals) and Connor Bedard (21 goals) in the standings for goals scored by rookies, and the 22-year-old looks poised to become the first Flyers rookie to have a 20-goal season since Matt Read in the 2011-12 season.
Foerster is just one of the Flyers' impressive core of young players that have stepped up to contribute this season, and has proven himself to definitely be one to watch as his career progresses.
The busy month of March is almost over for the Flyers, and their schedule for the rest of the season is arguably the easiest compared to their competition for that coveted playoff spot.
The team may insist that they like to take it one game at a time, but it doesn't hurt to evaluate the remaining games ahead of them and keep an eye on what the Capitals and Red Wings do during that same stretch. Scoreboard watching, as stressful as it is, will be an unavoidable part of keeping up with the Flyers as the regular season concludes. Given the current circumstances, however, the Flyers look like they're going to be okay. (Knock wood.)
