After the Philadelphia Flyers lost 4-1 to the Florida Panthers on Sunday, head coach John Tortorella gave a significant nonverbal answer about his goaltender, Felix Sandstrom.
After the Flyers' morning skate today, the bench boss apologized to the media for his actions.
"I made a terrible mistake with you guys the other night. You [Jordan Hall from NBCSP] might have asked me about Sanny. My body language was wrong. What I should have said to you was he tried. Sanny tried. Things happened this year that put our goaltending situation into a state of flux. Sanny did not deserve that from me. You had the perfect right to ask that question. He did not deserve that from me. It was wrong," Tortorella said.
The Flyers outshot the Panthers 33-15, leaving Sandstrom with just 11 saves in a game the Flyers needed to win.
Philadephia has another key game tonight against the rival New York Rangers. The Flyers sit two points above the Washington Capitals for third in the Metropolitan Division but have played two more games. The Rangers sit first in the NHL with 98 points.
