Nick Wosika-USA TODAY Sports - BREAKING: Flyers Acquire Erik Johnson From Sabres

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenseman Erik Johnson from the Buffalo Sabres.

Johnson will help the Flyers' depleted defense. Newly extended Nick Seeler is on IR, and there is no timetable for Jamie Drysdale's return.

The Flyers are trading a 2024 4th-round pick in return for Johnson.

Johnson was the first overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft and has played 970 games. In 50 games with Buffalo this season, he has three goals.

Johnson's cap hit is $3.25 million, and he will be a UFA after this season. The Sabres did not retain any salary.
