The Philadelphia Flyers announced they have signed alternate captain Travis Konecny to a massive eight-year, $70 million contract extension. Konecny is getting a well-deserved raise from his current $5.5 million AAV. The winger led the league in shorthanded goals last season with six. "I couldn't be happier to sign again with the Flyers," Konecny said in a statement. "There's such a bright and exciting future with this team and I can't wait to be a part of it for the next nine years and see what we will accomplish. I can't thank all my teammates and staff members enough because this opportunity wouldn't be possible without each and every one of them along the way. I can't wait to get back to Philly in front of the best fans in the world and I look forward to another great season!" Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim broke the news before the Flyers officially announced the signing. Sanheim said his source was Konecny. "Travis Konecny is an integral part of the fabric of our team and we are thrilled to have him under contract for the long-term," Flyers GM Danny Brière said in a statement. "Travis has grown into a significant leader on our team and he truly embodies what it means to be a Flyer. His work-ethic, combined with his tenacity and talent makes him a central figure for what we are building towards, and his determination for our future success speaks volumes about his commitment to our team and city." The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have signed 2024 13th overall pick Jett Luchanko to an entry-level contract. GM Danny Briere raised some eyebrows when he traded the 12th pick to the Minnesota Wild and then picked Luchenko.  In 68 games with the Guelph Storm, Luchenko scored 20 goals and 54 assists. The centerman is still just 17 years old and won't turn 18 until August. With such a young player, it is almost certain that he will need another year in the OHL to continue his development. Cam Atkinson has found a new home with the Tampa Bay Lightning after the Philadelphia Flyers bought him out. Cam Atkinson has found a new home with the Tampa Bay Lightning after the Philadelphia Flyers bought him out. Atkinson's Flyers career ended with a buyout just before the NHL Draft. Atkinson will still count against the Flyers' salary cap with a hit of $2,358,333 the first year and $1,758,333 the second.  The 35-year-old missed the entire 2022-23 season with an injury and returned to play 70 games in 23-24. Whether it was fatigue from missing an entire season or the beginning of the decline of his career, the Flyers opted to buy out the remaining year of his contract.  Atkinson was well-liked throughout the organization, and during his exit interview, he reflected on what he called a disappointing season. Atkinson was rumored to be on the move to the San Jose Sharks, but reportedly, he had San Jose on his no-trade list. The Sharks later said they were not interested in acquiring the winger. Michkov had 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) playing for HK Sochi. He was on loan from SKA St. Petersburg. "I’m extremely happy to officially become a part of the Flyers family," Michkov said in a statement. "Being in the NHL has been a dream for me since childhood. According to Frank Seravalli, the Philadelphia Flyers will not give goalie Carter Hart a qualifying offer. Hart and four other players are under fire for their involvement in the 2018 Hockey Canada Scandal. Yesterday, reports surfaced that the NHL opted not to change contractual procedures for those involved.  By not offering Hart a qualifying offer, he will become an unrestricted free agent. The former 2016 second-round pick's Flyers career has ended. Hart showed significant promise, but his legal issues off the ice have stopped his career in Philadelphia and maybe even the NHL. Atkinson has one year left in his contract. The 35-year-old played 143 games in the black and orange, scoring 36 goals and 42 assists.  Trade rumors surrounded the winger, including the San Jose Sharks. Reports said that Atkinson wasn't a fan of moving to San Jose, but that hasn't been confirmed. Sharks GM Mike Grier noted that San Jose was not interested in Atkinson. "When it comes to someone with the accomplishments and character of Cam, this was an exceptionally tough decision to make. Throughout his time with the Flyers, Cam has displayed an incredible work ethic and level of professionalism that is a true credit to him as a player and person," Flyers GM Danny Briere said in a statement. "I've witnessed firsthand the amount of effort, dedication, and perseverance he went through during an incredibly tough rehabilitation process in order to come back and be a leader for our team on and off the ice. I would like to thank Cam for all he has put into raising the standard of our team. REPORT: Flyers Showing Interest In Trevor Zegras
Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is garnering considerable attention in the trade market, and the Philadelphia Flyers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring him. Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras is garnering considerable attention in the trade market, and the Philadelphia Flyers have reportedly shown interest in acquiring him. According to The Fourth Period, Zegras has as many as eight NHL teams interested in acquiring him, with more that could be in the mix.  "At least eight teams have expressed serious interest in Zegras, including the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, Nashville Predators, Calgary Flames and Buffalo Sabres, and I believe other clubs have also been in the mix," Pagnotta writes. The 2019 9th overall pick has been a solid offensive contributor with some highlight reel plays. Last season for the Ducks, Zegras dealt with injuries and only played 31 games. He scored six goals and nine assists. One of his best highlights came in 2021 when he flipped a puck over the net for an assist.  Zegras and the Ducks disagreed about his latest contract. He didn't sign his three-year $17,250,000 contract until Oct. 2nd, which caused him to miss part of training camp. He was able to start the regular season on time.  Question marks surround the 23-year-old's ability to become an elite centerman in the NHL. Part of the disagreement between the Ducks and Zegras' camp was that comparable players like Nick Suzuki and Matthew Boldy have signed long-term extensions. Boldy's contract with the Minnesota Wild has a $7 million AAV. Zegras' high skill and offensive hockey IQ are great, but if a player wants to earn elite NHL player status money, he's got to round out the rest of his game.  With Matvei Michkov reportedly on his way to the Flyers this summer, trading for Zegras doesn't seem to make sense, given what the top prospect brings. The assets needed to acquire Zegras would be high; reports say his price is high. Matvei Michkov Unlikely To Attend Flyers Development Camp
According to reports, Matvei Michkov will not attend the Philadelphia Flyers development camp starting July 2nd. According to reports, Matvei Michkov will not attend the Philadelphia Flyers development camp starting July 2nd. Michkov has brought an extreme amount of excitement, and Flyers fans would love to get a look at the No. 1 prospect. Unfortunately for fans and the Flyers, Michkov has multiple steps to go through before hitting the ice as an official team member.  Michkov must first be in North America and sign his entry-level contract. He then has to obtain a work visa. That process can take some time, which isn't uncommon for Russian and other non-U.S. players to deal with.  One example of a work visa waiting period was seen in the New Jersey Devils' in-season. Jake Allen, who was traded from the Montreal Canadiens, had to wait for a work permit to play for the Devils.  The other example can be seen in the Flyers organization with Alexei Kolosov. Allen was traded on March 8th, trade deadline day, but did not make his Devils debut until March 14th.  While Michkov likely won't be at Flyers development camp, acquiring his visa and contract situation in June should ensure no bumps for training camp and beyond.  Make sure to bookmark THN's Philadelphia Flyers site for the latest news, exclusive interviews, breakdowns, and so much more. Flyers Still 'Waiting For Guidance' From The NHL Before Making Carter Hart Decision
The Philadelphia Flyers and GM Danny Briere are still waiting for the NHL to provide guidance on how to handle Carter Hart's contract situation. The Philadelphia Flyers and GM Danny Briere are still waiting for the NHL to provide guidance on how to handle Carter Hart's contract situation. During his pre-draft media availability, Briere told reporters that the league still hasn't informed them of what should happen to the players involved in the 2018 Hockey Canada Scandal.  "We haven't received any guidance. That was said publicly. We haven't been told what to do yet," Briere explained. "We're still waiting for guidance from them, as far as what we can do, what it is, and how it works out." Specifically for the Flyers, Hart is a pending restricted free agent. In order to retain his signing rights, he would need to be offered a qualifying offer of $4,479,000. Briere still said that part of the questions for the NHL surrounds how signing rights will work.  "That's all part of it. What we're allowed to do, and how will it work for rights in the future," Briere said. "There's a lot of questions surrounding the situation that we're hoping to have a little bit more direction on." Take away the scandal, and the Flyers have a No. 1 goalie, which might've been good to have down the stretch last season, but life off the ice is more important than the game of hockey. Trial dates have yet to be determined, but hearings are scheduled.  June 30th is the last day the Flyers can qualify Hart. The NHL will likely give the teams with players involved in the scandal more guidance before then.  Make sure to bookmark THN's Philadelphia Flyers site for the latest news, exclusive interviews, breakdowns, and so much more. Flyers Are Ready For Matvei Michkov To Join NHL, Whenever That Might Be
During his pre-draft availability, Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere said there isn't a timetable for top prospect Matvei Michkov's arrival. During his pre-draft availability, Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere said there isn't a timetable for top prospect Matvei Michkov's arrival. "If they tell us he's coming on September 1st, we'll jump on it," Briere said about Michkov. "The mindset for us is still, we're going into the next season without him." There have been many rumors swirling about when Michkov could join the Flyers. There have been reports that he will turn to North America this season as long as he plays in the NHL.  Briere admitted that he thought he would know more by the end of June but doesn't have much update on the status.  When pressed about other possible Russian draft picks in the 2024 NHL Draft, Briere said that it hasn't scared the Flyers in the past.  "It didn't scare us in the past, so I think you have your answer there. It has to make sense," Briere said about possibly drafting another Russian prospect. "We're evaluating the risk and your return. We've shown that if it does make sense, we will go there. They're certainly at the top of the draft again. There are some really good players that are from Russia." While there is no real clarity on the Michkov timeline, Briere still seems optimistic that if the Flyers must wait out the final two years of his KHL contract, the winger will still go to the NHL.  Make sure to bookmark THN's Philadelphia Flyers site for the latest news, exclusive interviews, breakdowns, and so much more. SPECULATION: Flyers In Play To Acquire Jakob Chychrun From Senators
With the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators believed to have the "framework" of a trade in place, many names are being thrown around, including defenseman Jakob Chychrun. With the Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators believed to have the "framework" of a trade in place, many names are being thrown around, including defenseman Jakob Chychrun. The Flyers reportedly spoke to the Senators about acquiring Chychrun around the 2023 trade deadline. The Senators have also been interested in acquiring Flyers forward Scott Laughton. Chychrun was traded from the Arizona Coyotes during the 2022-23 season in a long-running saga. He was healthy scratched for longer than other players in a similar situation of protecting assets. This season, he played all 82 games for the Senators, which is a big deal considering his injury history. He scored 14 goals and had 27 assists.  While there hasn't been any recent connection between the Flyers and Chychrun, there is much speculation. The trade rumors take another turn, as TSN's Darren Dreger reports that nothing is going on between the Flyers and Senators.  The Flyers are also interested in Senators forward Shane Pinto, who had a successful season despite missing the first half with a suspension from a gambling scandal. In 41 games, the 23-year-old scored nine goals and added 18 assists. The Flyers showed interest in the centerman during the 2023 offseason before the scandal happened. Pinto is a pending restricted free agent. Chychrun has one year left on his contract, a cap hit of $4.6 million, and a 10-team no-trade list. There are many rumors, so take all information with a grain of salt, but it certainly seems like the 2024 offseason is underway. The Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators reportedly have the framework for a trade in place. The Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators reportedly have the framework for a trade in place. In a day full of other NHL moves, including the Los Angeles Kings trading Pierre-Luc Dubois to the Washinton Capitals for Darcy Kuemper and Barclay Goodrow heading back to the San Jose Sharks via waivers, the Flyers get in on some action. Speculation on Twitter suggests that the move between the Senators and Flyers is for the Flyers to move up in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft.
