BREAKING: Flyers Terminate Ryan Johansen's Contract After "Material Breach"
The Philadelphia Flyers announced on Tuesday that forward Ryan Johansen, who has spent the majority of his career in Philadelphia on the sidelines after struggling with injuries, has been "placed on unconditional waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract."

The organization released an official statement explaining that Johansen's contract was being terminated "due to a material breach."
They specified that they will not be commenting further on the matter as of right now.
A material breach of contract is defined as "one that substantially defeats the purpose of the contract, or relates to an essential element of the contract, and deprives the injured party of a benefit that he or she reasonably expected."
In other words, one of the parties in this situation was not keeping up their end of the agreed deal, negatively affecting the other group and causing grounds for contract termination.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, "Johansen is expected to grieve this termination...[Flyers] have made it clear they will present their case if asked to do."
He added that "while the contract may be terminated tomorrow, there is going to be a bit of a process."
Johansen was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche back in March in exchange for defenseman Sean Walker and a first-round draft pick, but Johansen claimed to have a hip injury and has not played a single game for the Flyers since being traded.
Friedman has reported that "according to several sources, at issue is the injury that prevented Johansen from playing games for Philadelphia after being traded from Colorado."
There has been speculation that the forward has been exaggerating and even blatantly lying about the seriousness of his injury to avoid playing for the Flyers.
"All I can tell you is I don’t expect him to be back. I don’t know, exactly, the situation. We’re dealing on the medical side with him," Flyers GM Daniel Briere said back in April. "The thing for him is getting him back to be able to play at this time. He doesn’t think he can play hockey. I wish I had a better answer for you. We need to get him better to figure out if there’s even a remote chance of him dressing for the organization.”

I honestly disagree. He is making an impact, even on that line.
Take his night against LA. His assist to Raymond, he had two separate contacts where he was playing hard on the puck to keep the play alive. Then the awareness he showed to get the puck to Raymond while being swarmed with Kings players is directly responsible for the goal.
Then his goal, he was 2 on 1, but got taken down as he shot and maintained composure to take a Ovi style "falling down" shot to get the goal.
This kid is not going anywhere.

I know this is a real feel good story and I wish nothing but good for D Shine but in all seriousness how is he going to help the Wings going forward. Where is he going to be next year, or the year after. Right now he is just taking away what N Danielson could be doing.
