This Flyers defenseman dropped the gloves after scoring a goal.

As Denver Barkey heads back to the London Knights after spending the last couple of months watching the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp from the sidelines, he reflects on his recovery from illness and coming back a stronger player than before.

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Erik Johnson certainly had a hot start against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night (Nov. 11). The veteran scored a goal just 1:40 into the first period with a beautiful snipe.

However, Johnson did not stop there, as he then immediately dropped the gloves with Sharks forward Givani Smith on the next play.

Smith started a scrum with Flyers rookie Matvei Michkov after the faceoff, so Johnson immediately stood up for his teammate. He demonstrated great leadership on the play, but especially when noting that Smith is known for his toughness.

Johnson had not played since Nov. 2's contest against the Boston Bruins, so this was a great way for the 2006 first-overall pick to begin his first game back.
