This recently traded defenseman could have been a nice addition for the Flyers.

As Denver Barkey heads back to the London Knights after spending the last couple of months watching the Philadelphia Flyers' training camp from the sidelines, he reflects on his recovery from illness and coming back a stronger player than before.

Timothy Liljegren had been the subject of trade rumors for multiple weeks, but they finally came to an end on Wednesday (Oct. 30) night. The Toronto Maple Leafs traded the right-shot defenseman to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Matt Benning, a 2025 third-round pick, and a 2026 sixth-round pick.

Liljegren, 25, could have been an interesting player for the Flyers to take a chance on. The 2017 first-round pick has shown promise in a limited role with the Maple Leafs over the years, and he could have provided a nice boost to the right side of Philadelphia's blueline because of it.

During this past season with the Maple Leafs, Liljegren had three goals, 23 points, and 92 hits in 55 games. Overall, Kristianstad, Sweden native, demonstrated that he can provide not only a decent offense from the point but also a good amount of physicality in the process. Thus, he could have been a solid young defenseman for the Flyers to take a gamble on.

It will now be interesting to see how Liljegren performs with the Sharks. The potential for him to hit another level is there, especially given that he will have a more significant role with San Jose.
