Even in the whirlwind after the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, Philadelphia Flyers GM Danny Briere was still able to give an update on where contract talks stand with highly-anticipated Russian prospect Matvei Michkov, who was recently confirmed to be making the move from SKA St. Petersburg in the KHL to the Flyers organization.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports - Flyers Optimistic About Matvei Michkov Contract

Briere confirmed that contract negotiations are "looking very good," but did highlight that visa and immigration processes will make it unlikely that Michkov will arrive in the United States in time for the Flyers' development camp, which is being held from July 2-5.

Michkov's NHL timeline has been murky from the day he got drafted seventh overall by the Flyers in 2023, with contract obligations and geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and Russia making it seem like fans would have to wait until 2026 to see the young forward in orange and black.

It didn't help that the front office wasn't able to provide much clarity on the schedule, reiterating that they were ready to welcome Michkov whenever he became available, but insisting that they themselves didn't have a good idea on when that would be.

Only in recent weeks has it been confirmed that Michkov has terminated his KHL contract and is expected to join the Flyers in time for their preseason, which begins in September, but, as Briere pointed out, the front office don't have a specific timeline of when exactly fans can start packing the Flyers practice facility to catch a glimpse of the heavily-hyped prospect.
