Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine reportedly wants a fresh start, and the Philadelphia Flyers should look to acquire him.
Laine, who spent most of the season in the NHL's Player Assistance Program, could be on the move this offseason. Laine has played under head coach John Tortorella during the 20-21 season.
The former No. 2 overall pick has shown the ability to be a prolific offensive force in the NHL. In his first three seasons, the winger had 110 goals, including 44 in 2017-18.
In 45 games under Tortorella, he scored ten goals and 11 assists. The Flyers have begun to build a culture of winning, and if GM Danny Briere can bring Laine into the fold, the roster will get a much-needed goalscorer.
At 26 years old and wanting out of Columbus, his $8.7 million cap hit shouldn't be too much of a concern. Laine's contract does have a 10-team no-trade list attached.
With rumors of Joel Farabee possibly being in trade talks, he could be an option to acquire Laine. Farabee is only two years younger than Laine and has shown the ability to be successful in the league.
Although the Flyers would be taking a chance on a player who has had a bumpy career in recent memory, the upside might be too high to pass up.
